CITY HALL — A pilot program that uses cameras on city vehicles and CTA buses to automatically ticket drivers blocking bus and bike lanes is one step away from being made permanent and expanding citywide. The City Council’s Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Committee on Friday unanimously advanced a measure to greatly expand the Smart Streets program, which launched in November 2024 in a limited pilot area that included Downtown and parts of West Town, River North and the South Loop.
