Find filename collisions before a Mac or Windows move

Two filenames that coexist on a Linux volume may collide under another filesystem's normalization or case rules. A folder can contain both Report.txt and report.txt, or two visually identical accented names encoded differently.

This listing provides a non-renaming preflight scanner, two tested collision fixtures and a practical rename-plan worksheet. It is for moving a collection between Linux, macOS, Windows or object-storage workflows without discovering conflicts halfway through a copy.

The original tool groups relative paths after Unicode NFC normalization and case folding. That is a useful conservative heuristic, not an exact emulator of APFS, NTFS or every SMB server. Verified with CPython 3.12 on 18 October 2026. #Unicode #DigitalPreservation
