Verify a migrated folder with a SHA-256 manifest

A copy command finishing successfully does not show that every expected file arrived unchanged. This is a small migration-verification kit for a quiescent regular-file tree.

The reveal provides an original streaming SHA-256 manifest utility, instructions for comparing source and destination, a changed-byte fixture and a provenance record format. It fails on symlinks so that a preservation decision is not silently made for you.

Scope: Python 3.12, ordinary local files, an input tree that is not changing during the scan. It verifies bytes and relative names, not ACLs, extended attributes, authenticity or the correctness of the source itself. Tested 18 October 2026. #Checksums #DigitalPreservation
