Museum and library viewers may expose an IIIF image service that can supply a suitable crop or reduced image directly. Downloading an entire large scan is not always necessary.
The reveal provides a tested service-discovery example, the request-component checklist and a version-aware explanation of image size limits. It distinguishes a Presentation manifest's image body from an actual Image API service.
Scope: IIIF Image API 2/3 research workflows and publisher-permitted image access. A service endpoint does not grant reuse rights or permission to bypass restrictions. A real info.json request and 600-pixel-wide JPEG were checked on 18 October 2026. #IIIF #DigitalCollections
