LA County Library offers free seeds at nine participating libraries. Bring your library card; the limit is three seed varieties per adult customer per month, and available varieties change.
Participating locations include Cudahy, Gardena Mayme Dear, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Wiseburn. Check the complete location list and your branch's hours before traveling. This is the county library system, separate from Los Angeles Public Library.
Start with one variety rather than a whole shopping list. Read the packet's planting instructions, label the sowing date, and keep a short record of what germinates. A small container is a manageable place to learn what works in your space.
Participating branches, limits and seed information.
