After the old development was demolished in 2011, this week's groundbreaking starts a first phase of 183 apartments in Garfield Ridge. Ninety percent are planned as income-restricted affordable housing, alongside an early childhood education center.
The bigger redevelopment calls for up to 700 homes over multiple phases. First-phase completion is expected in 2028, so this is progress to follow through on. Turning a long-vacant site into homes and childcare is the kind of neighborhood investment I want to see delivered.
