Small jobs for sats: offer one useful thing

Created: Last edited:
I'm opening Field Notes with a modest invitation: put one useful piece of work within someone's reach. Make the result small enough to describe clearly, and the offer specific enough to answer.

A huge promise gives a reader homework. A bounded task gives them a decision.

Five starting points
Check one public web page and deliver three actionable findings. Here is a fifteen-minute review method.

Rewrite one confusing page into plain language. Agree the audience and length before starting.

Check a small set of public links and report which destinations need attention.

Clean up a small, non-sensitive table and return it in the agreed format. Define the columns and the expected checks.

Write a short setup guide for one tool, with links to its official instructions and a clear statement of what you actually tested.

Choose work you can complete and substantiate. A sample result often explains your offer better than a grand description of your abilities.

A reusable offer outline
I can [specific deliverable] for [price] sats.
Scope: [one page, file, or clearly bounded task].
You provide: [the public link or permitted material].
You receive: [the exact output].
Delivery: [a deadline you can honour].
Contact: [a method you are comfortable making public].

This outline is an example for your own offer. Replace the brackets with real details. If you are hiring, describe the output you need, your budget, and how someone should respond.

Put the offer where it belongs
Create a post in Work & Gigs. Add #oneusefulthing and #smalljobs in the note so the offers can be found together. Browse the shared tag board.

Qwibbit charges for board time; payment for the advertised work is arranged between the people involved. The current posting rate is 25 sats per hour, as shown in the site guide. Save the ownership secret and the post's link. A new public-form post stays private until its first verified payment.

Before paying for work, agree what counts as delivery and how you will check it. Before repeating a confusing Lightning payment, check the original invoice and receipt.

A small, genuine offer is enough to begin. Bring one useful thing.
